A night out in Brecon

Two weeks ago I went out with some friends in Brecon, I was in the Lounge having a beer upstairs and other friends were down stairs, I was quite relaxed when a friend from downstairs shouted “GET DOWN HERE NOW”, I thought there was a big scrap or something…………. I rushed downstairs only to find my self having a photo taken with these two Welsh Rugby players…..

Snowdonia………… Here we come !!!!

Mount Snowdon - in the clouds

Well here we go again on another adventure……….. a couple of weeks ago myself and Huge went to North Wales rock climbing as the weather forecast was great.

We left on Friday late afternoon and arrived at Betws-y-Coed early evening, we decided to have a bite to eat and a couple of beers before we pichted the tent. When the tent was up we had a glass of wine and watched the stars as it was one of the clearest nights i had ever seen, all of the constellations were out and so was the milky way………….

In the morning we went and found a great cafe for breakfast, then went to the Cotswold shop to buy some gear that we were missing and then headed off to Llanberis Pass. We arrived there and it was very busy, probably as the weather was great. We walked to Carreg Wastad and decided to climb the “Wrinkle” a classic 3* route 253ft 3 pitch v.diff. this was a great climb. We got our gear together and set off around the corner to climb “Crackstone Rib” a Welsh great classic, 3* route 175ft 3 pitch severe. Unfortunately when we got there 2 climbers were on the route and there were 4 climbers waiting to climb it, we waited for an hour or so and checking the guide book for something else to climb, but the weather took a turn for the worse and we decided to leave. On the way back to the campsite we popped into Plas-y-Brennin for some refreshments but the bar was closed. So back to Betws-y-Coed for some food and beers.

The next morning we decided to head home, but on the way we stopped off at Tremadog and climbed the “Christmas Curry” another classic route, 250ft, 4 pitch, HS. A fantastic climb and one of my all time favoutites.

“Bodge It” and “Scarper” - Ride again!!!

“Bodge It” and “Scarper” normally fit laminate flooring, but not this time………………………..

The first week in August I met up with friends Sam and James in Hay-on-Wye, who own and run the “Royal George” in Tintern. They were panicking a bit as they had a wedding on 11th August and were very short staffed, so being a right gentleman I told then that me and Huge would help them on the bar………

We arrived at the hotel about 10.30 on the 11th , only to be told that there was no rooms availabe and that we would have to pitch tent in the garden, good job I had one in the boot of my car (tent that is not a garden).

We got changed in the office and went to work, the first thing we had to do was make Pimm’s for 100 guests, after an hour - Pimm’s done…………..

Guests started to arrive and the drinks started to flow, we were naturals at pouring beers, under the guidance of the bar supervisor - Josh!!!!!!!!!!

We had such a great time at the Royal George on the Sat, we did it all over again on the Sun………..but finished a 4 in the afternoon as we had to go home and get ready for our real jobs…… whatever they are!!

A big thanks to Sam and James (proprietors) and to all of the staff at the Royal George for being fun and friendly. A good time was had by all

Coast to Coast

On the 3rd August, Me, Huge, “Where’s” Col” ( Director of Operations) and the French Connection braved the British weather and went on a gruelling 101 mile bike ride from Ilfracombe to Plymouth…….

Well…………… I was driving the support vehicle :-)

On the Friday night I drove to Croyde, then went to “The Thatch” for a couple of beers and then off to the campsite to try and pitch the tent, which was fun in the dark and it was raining, we succeeded and had a glass of wine to celebrate and then went to sleep.

In the morning I drove the “boys” to Ilfracombe and after a hearty breakfast they set off from the harbour at 09.30 - the start of the 101 mile trip……… it was arranged that I was going to meet them in Barnstaple…..

I arrived in Barnstaple, had a look around the town and bought the sweatty cyclists some water……….. thoughtful ain’t I !!!!!!!!!

Huge phoned me and told me where whey were, I met them there briefly as I wanted to watch the new Harry Potter film and didn’t have time to talk to them, we arranged the next check point…….. which I forgot where it was, but never mind.

After a few text messages and phone calls it was decided that we would camp at Okehampton, by this time I was tired and in need of a beer……. I found a fantastic campsite £3.50 per person per night - a true bargain, on flat ground and selling stella and vier, there was also free hot water in the showers…….the food there was also fantastic, after we had been fed and watered, we retired back to the tents for another glass of wine or two.

The next day was fantastic, beautiful sunshine - not so good for cycling but great for driving with air con etc……..

The next check point was Tavistock, what a great place I loved it there, and while I was in the area I went to Princetown - to see Dartmoor prison, quite a scary building but I took some pics never the less, I made my way back to Tavistock and had a cooling Devonshire ice cream with 2 flakes it was so tasty………

I hadn’d had a clue where the cyclists were so I thought it was time to sunbathe and make the most of the weather. A couple of hours later I had a call from “Where’s Col” telling me where they were, I met them and then we went for a light lunch in this clean and tidy brasserie, unlike the boys who were sweatting and stinking - not nice, after lunch and a couple of pints they forced themselves to complete the last leg of the trip and headed off to Plymouth………

I was taking a quiet drive to Plymouth but the weather was too hot so I had to stop for another hour or so of sunbathing……..

I eventually made it to Plymouth and so did they, after a packet of fish and chips I drove the lads home, they slept all the way, we got home at midnight and had a few glasses of wine to round off the trip.

A big thanks you lads, i really had a great weekend away, we must do it again sometime …………

No Smoking in England

Well…………….. you are all invited to meet me, my brothers and “where’s Col” in Cheltenhan on Sat 30th June, we will be smoking in the pubs in England for the very last time (an end of an era).

This is a very sad occasion so we are going to get very drunk and fall over (well i will be).

We will be starting in the Retreat at 7 p.m. and working our way into town, the more the merrier….. hic !!!!
